Descriptions:
Komárek & Anagnostidis (1998): Thallus epilithic, granular, thin, irregularly covering the substrate, composed of more or less erect or aggregated, more or less parallel or irregular rows of several separate cells (up to 4-6), which are polarized, narrowed towards the basal end and wider in the upper part. «Terminal» cells irregular spherical, ellipsoidal, pear - shaped, drop-like or club-shaped; the short rows of cells sometimes pseudodichotomously divaricate, enveloped by thick, firm, layered and coloured sheaths.
Komárek (1992): Unicellular - colonial; thallus epilithic, granular, thin, irregularly covering the substrate, composed from more or less erected or agglomerated, more or less parallel rows of several separated cells (up to 4-6), which are polarized, narrowed towards the "basal end and more widened in the upper part, "terminal" cells sometimes irregular spherical, pear-shaped, drop-like or club-shaped; the short rows of cells sometimes pseudodichotomously or pseudotetrachotomously divaricated, enveloped by thick, firm, layered sheaths. Cells pale blue-green, with more or less homogeneous content.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek & Anagnostidis (1998): Cells divide in several planes, but with predominant transverse division, perpenidicular to the long axis of the row of cells (origin of short pseudofilaments) or lengthwise; the divarication of rows is initiated by the lengthwise cell division (with respect to the axis of the pseudofliament). The smaller or narrower «basal» cells sometimes divide into baeocytes. Reproduction by baeocytes and probably also by small groups of cells, surrounded by gelatinous envelopes. Little known monotypic genus, which needs revision.
Komárek (1992): Cells divide in more planes, but with prevailing cross division, perpendicular to the long axis of the row of cells (short pseudofilament); the divarication of rows is initiated by the lengthwise cell division (in respect to the axis of the pseudofilament). The smaller or narrower "basal" cells divide sometimes in nanocytes. Reproduction by nanocytes and probably also by small groups of cells, enveloped by gelatinous envelopes.
