Descriptions:
Komárek (1992): Filamentous; thallous; mats prostrate on the substrate, olive green up to blackish-green, later wooly, with densely and irregularly coiled filaments, sometimes forming erected fascicles. Filaments of different width, with very fine, narrow, colourless, thin sheaths, which are occasionally visible only at the ends of branches, sometimes with hyaline dead cells in the apical parts, resembling the sheath formation. Basal trichomes in old parts uni- or two- (rarely three-) serial, constricted at cross-walls, without visible sheaths, with common true branching of T-type. Upper parts of branches, ends of basal trichomes and young trichomes narrower than basal trichomes, uniserial, clearly constricted or not constricted at cross-walls. Cells shortly barrel-shaped or irregular-subspherical, but in some parts (particularly in branches) cylindrical, or distinctly elongated, blue-green; apical cells rounded. Heterocytes intercalar, of different shape, usually more or less cylindrical, variable in length. Akinetes arise in older parts of filaments, change from solitary vegetative cells.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek (1992): Cells divide in more planes, but only crosswise in young trichomes and. branches. Reproduction by hormogonia, which separate from the ends of branches, by disintegration of trichomes, by planocytes and by akinetes (germination was described).

Notes to taxonomy, misinterpretations:

Ecology, ecophysiology, ecological significance:
Komárek (1992): Isolated from soils (including paddy fields), known only from tropical areas (India, Egypt). Very near to Westiellopsis.
