| Type species: Paracapsa siderophila Naumann, 1924. - Monotypic genus |
Descriptions:
Komárek & Anagnostidis (1998): Thallus attached to the substrate, hard, leathery, more or less spherical or hemispherical, often with abundant ferric precipitations, to 0.5 cm in diameter. Cells arranged irregularly within structureless, irregular mucilage and with individual gelatinous envelopes, or in irregular rows, sometimes slightly radially oriented. Cells more or less spherical or irregular.
Komárek (1992): Unicellular - colonial; thallus joined to the substrate, hard, leathery, more or less spherical or hemispherical, with common ferric precipitations, up to 0.5 cm in diameter. Cells situated irregularly within own gelatinous envelopes or in structure less mucilage, or in irregular rows, sometimes slightly radially oriented. Cells more or less spherical or irregular.
Geitler (1932): Lager hart, lederig, kugelig bis halbkugelig, an Steinen festgewachsen, bis 0,5 cm groß, mit Eisen imprägniert. Zellen in gemeinsamer Gallerte in Radialen Reihen bzw. Gallertfäden angeordnet.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek & Anagnostidis (1998):Cell division not described, but probably irregular and in various planes in successive generations. Little known, unrevised, monotypic genus; the ferric precipitates can hardly be used as the only generic differential feature, in other characters similar to Chlorogloea.
Komárek (1992): Cell division not described, but probably
irregular in different planes in successive generations.

Notes to taxonomy, misinterpretations:
|
Ecology, ecophysiology, ecological significance:
Komárek (1992): The only species described from stony, ferric littoral of one lake in Sweden. Very little known genus, not revised after the first description. From the genera Chlorogloea or Chondrocystis differs only by the ferric precipitations.
