Loefgrenia

Generic name: LOEFGRENIA Gomont 1896. Bot. Notiser 1897: 90.
Synonyms:
Diagnosis:
Type species: Loefgrenia anomala Gomont 1896
Descriptions:
Komárek (1992): Thallous; filaments heteropolar, attached by one end to the substrate, erected, near the base laterally branched (true branching of the V- type?), joined into blue-green, up to 1 mm long, more or less rigid fascicles. Filaments (trichomes) sheathless, always uniserial, at the end narrowed in a long cellular hair, at the base 2-4 μm wide, constricted at the cross-walls. Cells cylindrical, longer than wide. Heterocytes and akinetes not observed.
Genotype differences, molecular data:
Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek (1992): Cells divide evidently crosswise, reproduction was not described, hormogonia were not observed.
Ultrastructure:
Taxonomic position, higher hierarchy:
Cyanophyceae, Stigonematales, Loriellaceae
Notes to taxonomy, misinterpretations:
Ecology, ecophysiology, ecological significance:
Komárek (1992): The single (type-) species grows epiphytically, submersely on water plants and algae, mainly is reported from freshwater Batrachospermum. Known only from Brasil. Maybe only a stage of Nostochopsis.
Physiology and biochemistry:
Distribution, endemism, problematic
