Heterocyanococcus

Generic name: HETEROCYANOCOCCUS Kufferath, 1929. Ann. Cryptog. Exot. 2: 50.
Synonyms: ELEUTHERONEMA Weber van Bosse in Borzi, 1914. N. Giorn. Bot. Ital. 21: 354.
Diagnosis:
Type species: Heterocyanococcus haumanii Kufferath 1929. - Monospecific genus.
Descriptions:
Komárek (1992):
Thallous; thallus in form of small, simple, three-dimensional, tetrahedral, cubic or iregular, packet-like clusters of densely and irregularly gathered cells of indefinite size, microscopic; cells sometimes arranged in short rows, without enveloping common mucilage. Cells irregular, subspherical, flattened at sides connected with neighbouring cells, with blue-green, slightly granular content. Around cells firm, thin, not gelatinizing and not stratified colourless sheaths. Heterocytes subspherical or hemispherical, developing at sides (marginally) of cell clusters. Akinetes not observed.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek (1992): Cells divide irregularly in different planes and remain joined together in irregular packets
