| Generic name: HALOMICRONEMA Abed, Garcia-Pichel et Hernández-Mariné, 2002 Arch. Microbiol. 177: 368 |
| Synonyms:
|
Diagnosis:
Abed et al. (2002): Moderately halophilic and halotolerant, benthic, marine, filamentous, non-heterocystous cyanobacteria of very thin trichomes. Growth is optimal at salinities between 4.5 and 12% (w/v) total salts and ceases above 17% and below 3%. Trichomes are cylindrical, around or slightly less than 1 |jm wide. Thylakoids are arranged concentrically and parallel to the plasma membrane, single or stacked. Pores are distributed irregularly on cell wall and septa. No junctional pores observed.
Etymology:
Abed et al. (2002): Halomicronema Ha.lo.mi.cro.ne'ma. Gr.n. hals, halos salt; Gr. adj. mikros, small Gr. n. n. nema, filament; M.L.n.n. Halomicronema salt-tolerant small filament
