| Type species: Cyanobotrys lambinonii L. Hoffmann 1991. |
Descriptions:
Komárek (1992): Filamentous, thalous; filaments more or less free living, not coalescing laterally in compact mats, irregularly branched, growing and intricated in caespitose, brownish thallus. Trichomes multiseriate with irregular lateral true branching; branches uniseriate or multiseriate, more or less short, often grouped together. Sheaths partly lamellated, hyaline to yellow-brownish. Cells in the main trichomes more or less irregular globose or shorter than wide. Heterocytes intercalar, localized usually in the marginal position in the multiseriate trichome, more or less globose.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek (1992):Reproduction by cylindrical, uniserial hormogonia with several up to more than 20 cells, which separate from the ends of branches, and by a special type of unicellular monocytes (called by Hoffmann 1991 as phragmocytes); phragmocytes arise by the fragmentation of a part of lateral branch under the apical cylindrical hormogonium in solitary cells; sometimes the whole branch disintegrates with except of some basal cells and the cells corresponding to the apical meristematic zone (hormogonium); phragmocytes liberate simultaneously at the apex of lateral branches after the separation of the apical hormogonium. The development of new trichomes and filaments from phragmocytes and hormogonia was not observed.
