| Type species: Camptylonemopsis lahorensis (Ghose) Desikachary 1948 |
Descriptions:
Komárek (1992):Filaments heteropolar, rarely straight and erect, usually creeping on the substrate, but distinctly divided into basal end with a heterocyte and the apical end, simple, unbranched, solitary or in small, microscopic groups. Trichomes with basal, more or less spherical or hemispherical heterocytes, occasionally also with intercalar, cylindrical heterocytes; at intercalar heterocytes sometimes division of trichomes and their disintegration; trichomes cylindrical, not attenuated, but sometimes with slightly widened apical parts, constricted at the cross walls. Sheaths always present, firm, thin, colourless, open at the ends. Cells cylindrical or barrel-shaped, sometimes more rounded at the ends, without aerotopes, but sometimes with a granular content, blue-green, yellowish or pale greyish-blue. Akinetes not well known.

Reproduction strategies, life cycles, cell division:
Komárek (1992): Cell division perpendicularly to the long axis of trichomes (subapical meristematic zones). Trichomes disintegrate into hormogonia in the upper part with the help of necridic cells. Reproduction by hormogonia, which develop by a special manner: in their middle develop one or two heterocytes, which separate two fiillments one from another and change into basal heterocytes.

Ecology, ecophysiology, ecological significance:
Komárek (1992): Epiphytic and epilithic species, growing in submerse, not polluted freshwater biotopes. Majority of species described from tropical countries and known usually only from few localities.
